WWLF Q2 Introduction
by Kristen Beyer, Founder and Executive Director, Strategic Initiatives for First Tyr Solutions, LLC
|
|
|
Hello WWLF Members,
As we enter Q2, WWLF continues to expand its presence, influence, and impact across the wireless ecosystem. This quarter builds on the strong momentum of early 2026 as we advance initiatives that support leadership development, career growth, and meaningful connection across every stage of the professional journey.
We are proud to share that WWLF is an official Partner of the 2026 ConnectX in Fort Lauderdale, reinforcing our commitment to visibility, leadership, and engagement within the broader wireless and infrastructure community. Our participation at ConnectX reflects WWLF’s continued growth and our role in bringing women together where industry dialogue, collaboration, and opportunity intersect.
As our community grows, so does the importance of intentional career development, particularly through mentorship. Over the past year, WWLF’s Mentoring Program has continued to gain momentum, connecting members through thoughtful, high-impact relationships that support career clarity, confidence, and advancement. Strong participation, repeat involvement, and consistent feedback have demonstrated that mentorship remains a powerful tool for navigating transitions, building leadership skills, and expanding professional perspective.
Building on this success, WWLF is expanding the Mentoring Program in Q2 with new mentor levels designed to support members at different career stages. These include professionals with less than 10 years of industry experience who are building their foundation, as well as experienced leaders with 10 or more years who are focused on broadening their strategic influence and preparing for executive and C-level roles. As engagement continues to grow, WWLF is intentionally strengthening this program to support a long-term leadership pipeline that benefits both individuals and the industry.
A guiding theme of this year’s mentoring experience is the concept of writing your own job description. In an evolving industry, growth often requires moving beyond defined titles and traditional paths. Through mentorship, peer connection, and shared experience, WWLF encourages members to take ownership of their careers—identifying the skills they want to develop, the leadership opportunities they want to pursue, and the impact they want to make.
Thank you for being part of the continued growth and impact of the WWLF community.
Kristen Beyer, WWLF Co-Director of Programs

Message from the Editor by Jaylene Nelson, 2026 WWLF Editor

Hello Everyone,
For the first time, in a long time, I have skipped over the entire season of basketball; however, when it comes to the BBall term, “building a bench” it is front row viewing! This quarter, we have explored “bench building” through emerging leadership and mentoring through the lens of personal experience and Masterminds. Where taking an active role in treating leadership development as a responsibility owed to the whole of an organization or within the room.
Our Quarterly Contributors and WWLF resources highlight the importance of supporting leadership and committing to mentoring future generations!
With Gratitude
Jaylene Nelson, 2026 WWLF Editor

The Power of Masterminds: How the Right Room Shapes the Right Leader by Amanda Cahill, Executive VP, Sales and Development, Branch Communications
|
|
|
Masterminds have a way of changing you long before you even realize it.
It’s not just the strategies, the ideas, or the conversations. It’s the environment. It’s the proximity. It’s the subtle but powerful shift that happens when you place yourself in a room with people who are operating at a different level and expect you to do the same.
This idea isn’t new. In fact, Think and Grow Rich introduced the concept of the “Master Mind” decades ago. Napoleon Hill described it as the coordination of knowledge and effort between two or more people working toward a definite purpose. But what he emphasized most was something deeper: that when people come together in true alignment, a third, intangible force is created. He called it the “third mind.”
You feel it when you’re in the right room.
At first, it can feel uncomfortable. You may question whether you belong. You may compare your journey to others in the room. You may feel like you’re still “figuring it out” while everyone else seems further along. But what you quickly realize is that even the most accomplished leaders in the room are asking themselves the same questions.
That is one of the greatest gifts of a mastermind: perspective.
When you hear high-level leaders openly talk about their challenges, their doubts, and the pressure they carry, it reshapes the way you see yourself. You begin to understand that growth is not reserved for a certain level of success. It is a constant process. It shows you that leadership is about being willing to step into the next version of yourself, even when it feels uncertain.
Masterminds also create a level of community that is hard to find anywhere else.
Leadership can be isolating. As you grow in your career, your challenges evolve, and fewer people around you can relate to what you’re navigating. You may have a strong support system, but there is a difference between being supported and being deeply understood. A mastermind bridges that gap. Mentorship vs. Sponsorship: Why Both Matter by Lynn Whitcher, Co-Executive Director of Programs, Telecom Trailblazers
|
|
|
In conversations about career growth, mentorship comes up often. Mentors guide us, challenge us, and help us see possibilities we may not have considered.
But there is another force just as important and often less discussed. That is sponsorship.
Understanding the difference between the two, and how each shows up in your career, can shape not only how you grow, but how you move into new opportunities.
Mentorship: The Power of Shared Insight
Early in my career, I did not participate in a formal mentorship program because I was focused on building subject matter expertise. I suspect this is a mistake made by many lawyers. Looking back, I wonder how those programs might have shaped my path. To be honest, I am not sure I was ready to fully benefit from them at that stage.
The mentors in my life came from organic relationships, including one of the most formative influences for me - Patti Ringo, a past president of the Women’s Wireless Leadership Forum (WWLF). If you know Patti, she has always been full of wonderful (and big) ideas and has deep industry insights and guidance. Actually, she introduced me to WWLF some 17 years ago and I have never looked back.
We are fortunate to have so many inspiring leaders in this organization. Many of the initiatives I have helped build, including the Women in Leadership Symposium at Connect (X), which came from conversations with WWLF peers. Those exchanges of ideas, shared insight, and encouragement are mentorship in action.
Sponsorship: Advocacy When It Counts
If mentorship is guidance, sponsorship is advocacy.
A sponsor uses their influence to create opportunities for you, often when you are not in the room.
When I joined MD7, I never expected to become its General Counsel. This role had long been held by one of the founders. He was the one who put my name forward for taking over the role: Advocacy. I believe what stood out about me to him was my willingness to speak candidly, even when my perspective differed from his. Over time, that built trust. He knew I would continue to have those difficult conversations when they mattered most.
That is sponsorship.
